Broome and Tioga NY Hot Tub Wiring Requirements

It is mandatory for hot tubs to have a dedicated 240V GFCI circuit to safely provide them the necessary power to run while maintaining safety requirements.  Because of this, you’ll need to make sure your home is running at least a 100 amp service.  While most homes in our area meet this requirement, older, historic homes that have yet to have an electrical wiring upgrade which the electricians at Albrite Electric can also assist you with.

Hot Tub Installation Safety Precautions

  • Don’t choose a place for your hot tub that is under powerlines.  We all love going in our hot tubs during a winter snowfall but that snow can bring down powerlines as well causing an electrical hazard.
  • Don’t install low voltage landscape lighting closer than 10 feet from your hot tub, regardless of whether it is GFCI protected.
  • Try not to use underground wiring for your outdoor hot tub.  Wiring should be at least 5 feet away from your hot tub, but if space limitations prevent this, your hot tub wiring should be installed in rigid metal conduit, nonmetallic raceway system designed for burial, or intermediate metal conduit.
